Ontario Lung Association’s Consumer Health Application Achieves Canada Health Infoway Certification

(Toronto)Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) and the Ontario Lung Association (OLA) announced today that the breathe web application has achieved Infoway’s Consumer Health Application certification.

"By achieving Infoway certification, OLA’s breathe app assures the consumer health application market that this product is in conformance with national privacy, security and interoperability standards,” says Dennis Giokas, Chief Technology Officer, Canada Health Infoway. “We congratulate OLA for meeting those standards and achieving Infoway Consumer Health Application certification.”

In order to achieve certification, OLA underwent an assessment process to demonstrate that it met the standards set by Infoway’s Certification Services.

“The breathe app is an important new tool that gives patients with asthma access to their personal health record to enhance self-monitoring and self-management through a user-friendly web or mobile platform,” said George Habib, president and CEO of the Ontario Lung Association. “The Lung Association and our partners; University Health Network’s Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, University of Western Ontario, Queen’s University and the SickKids Research Institute, are delighted that the breathe asthma app has been evaluated and has met Canada Health Infoway’s standards for security and interoperability in digital health services.”

breathe is a novel web application designed to enhance asthma self-monitoring and self-management. With integration with asthma data repositories, personal health records, and asthma clinics, the system creates a collaborative environment between the individual, caregivers, and providers.
