Canada Health Infoway Announces Appointment of Interim President and CEO

June 1, 2026 – TORONTO, ON – The Board of Directors of Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) today announced the appointment of Abhinav “Abhi” Kalra as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective May 28, 2026.

Kalra brings deep experience in advancing Canada’s digital health priorities and has played a key role in shaping Infoway’s Connected Care agenda. Prior to his appointment as Interim President and CEO, he served as Infoway’s Executive Vice-President, Connected Care, leading the organization’s strategy to build a modern, connected health system through the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap and helping establish a coordinated national approach to improving access to and sharing of health information across care settings to support better patient care.

Dr. Peter Vaughan, Chair of Infoway’s Board of Directors, stated “The Board has full confidence in Abhi’s ability to lead the organization through this transition and into its next phase of work. As part of its ongoing oversight of the organization’s future direction and priorities, the Board has been focused on ensuring Infoway is well positioned to continue advancing its mandate. Abhi’s deep understanding of Infoway’s mandate, combined with his experience working across governments, health system partners and industry, positions him to provide continuity while advancing the work needed to improve access to information and deliver meaningful outcomes for patients and providers across Canada.”

At Infoway, Kalra’s leadership has delivered nationwide approaches to how health information is accessed and shared, helping to unlock the value of health data across the system. This work includes advancing common frameworks and national standards for health data exchange, leading national initiatives that support the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare, and working with industry partners and clinicians to bring forward practical, secure, and workflow-integrated solutions.

“It is a privilege to take on this role at such an important time for Canada’s health system,” stated Kalra. “Infoway’s work is grounded in strong collaboration across governments, clinicians, patients, industry, and partners, and that work will continue with a clear focus on delivery. Our priority is to ensure that digital health investments continue to translate into practical improvements in how care is delivered, including more timely access to information, better coordination across care teams, and a stronger experience for both patients and providers.”

In his role as Interim President and CEO, Kalra will continue to guide the organization’s work as Canada’s digital health agency, working with federal, provincial and territorial governments and health system partners to accelerate the development and adoption of digital health infrastructure, standards and solutions that enable Connected Care across Canada.
