Bringing together stakeholders to demonstrate the real-world impact of pan-Canadian specifications.

What is a Projectathon?

Projectathons are collaborative testing events that help accelerate the adoption of interoperable digital health solutions. By validating systems against pan-Canadian health data exchange specifications, participants contribute to more efficient, effective, and patient-centered tools. This reduces data fragmentation, improves care coordination, and enhances the overall efficiency of Canada’s healthcare system.

Pan-Canadian Projectathons also provide a space for innovation and collaboration, bringing together stakeholders from across the country to demonstrate the practical value of national standards.

These testing events help ensure that digital health solutions are effective, trustworthy, and ready to support Connected Care across Canada. They accelerate the adoption of health data exchange standards and foster collaboration among health system stakeholders, building momentum toward a more connected and sustainable health system for all Canadians.

2026 Event Overview

Infoway will host the 2026 Pan-Canadian Projectathon from February 24–26, 2026. It will feature two components: the 2026 Projectathon testing event and the Open Symposium. Both events will be virtual and registration details will be available soon.

The Projectathon offers a non-competitive environment for problem solving and collaboration among vendors, provinces, territories, and industry leaders, while the Symposium will feature presentations and discussions with experts on topics such as health data exchange standards, interoperability initiatives, and pan-Canadian digital health innovations.

Projectathon Testing

The 2026 Projectathon testing event provides developers and implementers with the opportunity to validate their systems against key pan-Canadian specifications, such as PS-CA, CA:eReC, and HALO, ensuring readiness for real-world deployment and alignment with the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap.

Projectathon participants will have the opportunity to test and validate their digital health solutions in sandbox environments simulating real-world workflows and data exchange, problem-solving in real time and helping accelerate system-wide adoption of interoperable solutions.

Open
Symposium

The Open Symposium brings together health IT leaders and industry experts interested in learning more about health data exchange standards and their role in accelerating interoperability nationwide.

Through virtual conference-style sessions, attendees will gain insights from digital health and industry leaders covering topics focused on key drivers of health IT innovation, including public-private partnerships and the Shared pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap. The Symposium also offers opportunities for networking, idea exchange, and collaboration on the future of health IT.

Educational Webinars

Ahead of the 2026 Projectathon, Infoway will host two educational webinars this fall and winter, providing information on registration, testing scope, and key learning outcomes. Webinar registration details will be available soon.
