Clinical perspective to inform planning, support outreach with clinical community
August 22, 2016 (Toronto) – A practising physician with a commitment to collaboration and improving patient care and provider satisfaction has been appointed as Canada Health Infoway’s (Infoway) first Chief Medical Officer, announced Michael Green, Infoway’s President and CEO.
In this new role, Dr. Asim Masood will further strengthen the clinical perspective that informs Infoway’s planning and programs when he joins the organization on September 6.
“I look forward to working with Dr. Masood, who will provide strategic direction, leadership and advice on the clinical perspective across the organization, as well as thought leadership externally with professional associations, health providers and organizations at the jurisdiction and national levels,” said Green.
Since 2015, Dr. Masood has served as Regional Chief Medical Information Officer for William Osler Health System (Osler), Headwaters Healthcare Centre and the Central West Community Care Access Centre in Brampton and Orangeville, Ontario, as well as Executive Medical Director, Medical Affairs and Physician Development at Osler.
Masood began practising as an emergency department physician in 1999, and has served as emergency department chief. Over the past 10 years, he has led numerous initiatives related to improving clinical practice and the quality of patient care through the adoption and use of digital health.
“I have seen first-hand how digital health improves health outcomes for patients and improves efficiency of care delivery for clinicians,” said Dr. Masood. “I look forward to leveraging my experiences to contribute to Infoway’s vision of healthier Canadians through innovative digital health solutions.”
Dr. Masood, who was the physician lead at Osler for the development and deployment of a patient portal, also led the development of a physician portal used to view patient information. He has also been involved in change management initiatives involving processes for clinical information systems, electronic chart completion and the delivery of electronic patient results.
