February 23, 2015 (Toronto)Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) and Accreditation Canada recognize six 2015 LEADing Practice award recipients for strengthening clinical practice and improving the patient experience with their use of digital health.

A selection committee of health care representatives from Infoway's Clinical Council and Reference Groups, Accreditation Canada, HealthCareCAN, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nurses Association, and the Canadian Pharmacists Association reviewed and evaluated multiple submissions. The committee selected six organizations to recognize with 2015 LEADing Practice awards:

  • Alberta Health Services, Alberta
  • Capital Health, Nova Scotia
  • Dr. Elizabeth Sawyers, Ottawa, Ontario
  • Health Sciences North, Emergency Department, Sudbury, Ontario
  • Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, Whitby, Ontario
  • The Centre for Family Medicine, Kitchener, Ontario

"It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the 2015 LEADing Practice award recipients on their achievement," said Michael Green, president and CEO, Canada Health Infoway. "This year's recipients have demonstrated how through their clinical leadership, digital health solutions such as e-booking, e-integrated care plans and secure patient portals are improving health system navigation, efficiency, access and continuity of care. I hope their inspirational stories will assist other clinicians in effectively using digital health in clinical practice across Canada."

A LEADing Practice exemplifies one or more of Infoway's opportunities for action to improve the patient experience, and one or more of the clinical benefits of digital health. It alsorepresents best practice characteristics for use in clinical practice: Learning from others; Exemplifying benefits; Accelerating adoption; and Delivering results.

"All recipients should be extremely proud of their contribution to clinical practice and the patient experience through the use of digital health," said Wendy Nicklin, President and CEO, Accreditation Canada. "We look forward to highlighting these noteworthy examples of high-quality leadership and service delivery in our Leading Practices Database to help other health care professionals learn from these best practices."

The award is part of Infoway's pan-Canadian Knowing is Better clinician education campaign developed to generate awareness of the benefits of digital health in Canada. To learn more about the Knowing is Better clinician education campaign and LEADing Practices, visit KnowingIsBetter.ca.
