Early adopter promotes use of electronic tools for physicians

Dr. Kendall Ho is an emergency physician at Vancouver General Hospital as well as director of UBC Faculty of Medicine eHealth Strategy Office.

He was the past associate dean of the division of continuing professional development of the same Faculty. An early adopter of electronic health solutions, he said his interest in electronic health record (EHR) systems was sparked by the launch of the Internet and the possibilities it offered his profession, such as online continuing education and medical data sharing.

Dr. Ho uses an EHR system in his work at the Vancouver General and considers it an invaluable resource when treating his patients. He is also a proponent of using mobile technologies, such as smartphones and tablet computers, to assist the practice of medicine. In his academic role, he is acutely aware of the need to incorporate electronic health solutions into the medical curriculum and has worked to support this initiative.

Dr. Ho talks about the use of an EHR system and its benefits for patients as well as for the physicians of the future.
