Michael Golbey is a family physician in Kelowna, British Columbia. He had been very interested in electronic medical record systems (EMRs) since the beginning of his career.
He and his medical colleagues and office staff looked at a number of vendor options. Then they chose the one they felt would be the best fit. They began implementing the EMR system in phases in the spring of 2010. The medical office assistants (MOAs) started using it first, followed in the summer of 2010 by the doctors. A nurse practitioner also uses the EMR system. However, he didn’t feel the time was right to implement a system in his practice until 2010.
Doctor Golbey talks about the challenges of implementing an EMR system, as well as the benefits for himself, his colleagues and staff, and most of all for patients.
