Don Newsham is chief executive officer of COACH, Canada’s Health Informatics Association.
This organization supports the practice of health informatics in Canada and promotes professional development in the field. Activities include networking, forums, conferences, peer awards, professional certification, information and best practice sharing.
Newsham brings 25 years of experience in the health sector to his role. He chairs the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 215 Working Group on the electronic health record (EHR) data standards, is the Canadian head of delegation to the ISO Health Informatics TC215 and co-chairs the Canadian Advisory Committee. Newsham talks about his organization’s role as well as the key issues and challenges for moving Canada’s EHR initiative forward.
