Delivering on the Promise of Virtual Care

Posted on February 2, 2021 by Michael Green

While the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the use of virtual care across Canada, there needs to be a concerted effort to ensure that it will be a viable alternative model of care well into the future. Canadians want virtual care, they like it, it’s safe, efficient and effective, and it saves everyone time and money.

Summary Corp PlanThat’s why Infoway is making virtual care our focus for the coming fiscal year. As you will read in our 2021-2022 Summary Corporate Plan, we will collaborate with Health Canada and the provinces and territories to support priority needs and drive virtual care adoption. We will also work with industry partners who are developing innovative solutions, clinicians who are using these solutions, and patients and their families, to ensure they have an optimal care experience.

We welcome the Government of Canada’s commitment to invest $240.5 million to expand and launch virtual care and mental health tools to support Canadians, and we look forward to receiving a portion of this funding to advance various virtual care initiatives.

In conjunction with our focus on virtual care, we will also work with our jurisdictional and industry partners, as well as clinicians, to drive adoption of PrescribeIT®, Canada’s national e-prescribing service. Since the pandemic began, there has been increased interest in the service from prescribers and pharmacists/pharmacy companies. We share their view that PrescribeIT® can play an integral role in virtual care, now and into the future.

I invite you to read our 2021-2022 Summary Corporate Plan to get full details about our five goals for the upcoming fiscal year and the specific performance expectations we have set to achieve them.
