Three Tips to Improve Your Entry in the Data Impact Challenge II

In health care, there are many policy issues and questions for which there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to find the answers. But what if the answers are hiding right under our noses?

That’s the premise behind the Data Impact Challenge II. Following in the successful footsteps of our first Data Impact Challenge, we again are asking authorized users of health data to find answers to a set of pressing policy questions using their own data. In the previous Challenge, responses came not only from researchers, but also from primary care practices, hospitals, private companies, students, and government agencies. Forty-one responses poured in over the course of just eight weeks!

The new set of challenge questions touch on an array of topics, spanning from opioid use, to a question regarding social media and mental health to one about adverse drug events. There is up to $95,000 in awards available to teams who enter. If you think you can provide an answer to any of the questions, here are some tips for you to improve your entry:

  • Check out the exclusive webinar hosted by Canadian Institute for Health Information’s (CIHI) Jennifer Frood, in which she provides a step by step guide to a good analysis.
  • Review the submissions from the first Data Impact Challenge, all of which are available online in full. Note that the submission guidelines have changed slightly between Challenges.
  • Be sure to review the Answer Submission Template and the FAQs to ensure your entry contains each of the elements on which the judges are scoring.

With the above resources, you will have the foundation needed to create a strong entry. Entries in the Data Impact Challenges are reviewed by a panel of distinguished judges with a variety of backgrounds and expertise.
