New Study Finds the Benefits of e-Booking

Posted on June 24, 2014 by Fraser Ratchford

Digital health is making a significant impact to Canadians and is resulting in better delivery, quality and access to care. e-Booking is one of the tools that is adding convenience and increasing productivity to the health care system. It allows patients to book their own medical appointments online at any time and without the assistance of office staff. Patients receive online confirmation and alerts about their appointments, allowing the office staff to focus on higher-value tasks.

Canada Health Infoway invested in a demonstration project that was evaluated by a research team from HEC Montreal and Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, which assessed the use and benefits of e-booking. The report found that e-booking had a significant impact on both patients and clinicians and reported strong satisfaction with e-booking due to increased flexibility, time-saved and decreased no-show appointments.

In an effort to support the availability of e-booking solutions for patients, Infoway’s e-Booking Initiative, is offering eligible clinicians financial support and other resources to help offset costs associated with the implementation of a solution of their choice, and participation in the Initiative. The registration period runs until June 30, 2014.
