Clinicians are Embracing Digital Health

It is no secret that the volume of medical knowledge is increasing exponentially every day.

Meanwhile human beings are living longer, more active, healthier lives, often while coping with multiple stable chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and congestive heart failure.

Clinicians need the appropriate tools to allow them to manage the increasing amount of health care information relating to patient populations who are managing multiple medical issues simultaneously.

Digital health solutions are uniquely positioned to help physicians synthesize this vast knowledge with large amounts of patient data. Some digital health tools, such as decision support applications for example, may be critical resources in helping physicians and patients navigate the most appropriate care pathways together.

In this context, it is clear why physicians, nurses and pharmacists value digital health solutions, with:

  • 94 per cent of primary care physicians in Alberta using an electronic medical record reporting that patients receive test results faster1
  • 99 per cent of community pharmacists using a provincial drug information system saying that access to patient information has improved2
  • 53 per cent of nurses using digital health solutions saying that they use them to view medications taken by a patient3
