“Learning about best practices for the use of information and technology will position our next generation of pharmacists to reach for the national vision for pharmacy in Canada – to provide optimal drug therapy outcomes for Canadians through patient centered care. We are extremely pleased that this group of students will be assisting AFPC to develop a national online education program for use by Canadian pharmacy faculties,” noted Harold Lopatka, AFPC’s Executive Director.
The Pharmacy Student Awards were created to engage students in the AFPC/Infoway Pharmacists in Training initiative and to provide learning opportunities in the area of pharmacy informatics. Recipients were selected based on their leadership in the area of pharmacy informatics and their ability to contribute to the development of the online educational program.

Neil de Haan of the BC Cancer Agency is the inaugural recipient of the AFPC-Infoway Pharmacy Student Post-graduate Award of $5,000.

“Ensuring the next generation of pharmacists enters the workforce prepared to practice in technology-enabled environments is what the Pharmacists in Training initiative is all about,” said Richard Alvarez, President and CEO of Infoway. “These students have already shown an interest in pharmacy informatics, and we look forward to their contributions as they help to shape the integration of the effective use of technology in pharmacy practice into the curriculum.”
The award recipients were announced at the 2013 Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns’ (CAPSI) Professional Development Week.
