Pathologies of Poverty: Integrating Social Factors for High-Performing Health Care

Health care systems across the globe are rightfully fascinated by the power and promise of artificial intelligence and precision medicine. The humbling reality, is that currently in Canada, a postal code remains a better predictor of health outcomes than a genetic code. With this inextricable link between poverty and chronic disease, hospitals will need to re-envision their roles as anchor institutions to better address widening health disparities. Co-design with community through a behavioural lens will also be critical for the delivery of impactful, high-quality care.
