Description:
Dr. Robert Bell, Deputy Minister of Health & Long-Term Care, Ontario
In support of the health system transformation described in Ontario’s Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care, the Patients First: Digital Health Strategy was developed to advance modern, integrated, patient-centred care. The strategy aims to: enhance access to health information and services; strengthen quality, effectiveness and accountability; and stimulate innovation and growth. Implementing this strategy will change delivery of healthcare in Ontario, and the ministry’s efforts and priorities will be targeted accordingly. For example, prioritizing consumer digital health would empower patients through modernized access to personal health information, care providers and innovative consumer-facing digital health solutions. Another priority is enabling and expanding secondary use of Ontario’s rich digital health datasets to unlock their potential for research and innovation. Together, these and other initiatives under the Digital Health Strategy will advance Patients First objectives for improved patient health outcomes and help set Ontario on a path to mature, integrated stewardship of digital health supports and services.
