Interoperable EHR
Infoway's Interoperable EHR Program focuses on implementation of solutions that allow clinicians to view and update an integrated patient-centric health record anywhere at any time. The Electronic Health Record (EHR) gives authorized healthcare providers rapid access to patients' complete, up-to-date health information to support clinical decision-making and case management. An integrated patient-centric health record will provide a longitudinal view of individual's key health history and care including physician visits, hospitalizations, diagnostic images and reports, laboratory test results, prescribed drugs, and immunizations.
A network of interoperable EHR solutions in Canada – one that links clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and other points of care – will help improve Canadians' access to health services, enhance the quality of care and patient safety, and assist the healthcare system to become more efficient.
The Interoperable EHR investment program supports EHR initiatives that demonstrate value and benefits in a specific health practice domain integrating information across multiple points of service and multiple caregivers. All projects must align with the jurisdictional EHR strategy in order to coordinate and integrate with other initiatives. Commercially available integrated EHR solutions will be deployed regionally or supra-regionally to demonstrate interoperability, scalability and replicability.
