Infostructure

Infoway's Infostructure Program is focused on development of common solution architecture and standards to ensure interoperability of Electronic Health Record (EHR) solutions. The program supports the architectural requirements, environment and tools necessary for building an interoperable pan-Canadian EHR.

Infostructure includes common solution architecture, common and reusable services and standards fundamental to ensure the integration and interoperability of a diverse set of clinical systems. It also includes a strong focus on the EHR's capacity to share clinical data among clinicians.

The Infostructure program consists of the following four components: Interoperability Requirements and Architecture; Cross-program Methods and Standards; the EHR Standards Collaboration Process; and, Maintenance and Conformance.

Under its Infostructure program, Infoway has developed the Electronic Health Record Solution Blueprint, a fully validated, scalable architecture that lays out the business and technical considerations and approaches that will ultimately guide the sustainable development of interoperable EHR systems in Canada.
