Knowledge Transfer and Sharing
A fundamental aspect of Infoway's approach to implementing a pan-Canadian electronic health record for Canadians is the proactive reuse of knowledge gained as each jurisdiction implements systems across Infoway's Programs. The Knowledge Management Program at Infoway actively stimulates and encourages our stakeholders to interact and, in so doing, create, innovate, and improve implementation of EHR solutions.
Knowledge management represents an opportunity to work with public and private sector partners to enable Infoway and its stakeholders to become more effective in implementing a pan-Canadian electronic health record for Canadians through:
- demonstrating value to jurisdictions by using knowledge to help them succeed in their projects
- developing knowledge to address gaps that may exist within Infoway's various programs
- facilitating the development of knowledge bases that provide relevant content and expertise
- identifying ways and means for teams to collaborate to solve issues (and in so doing build knowledge)
- delivering all of the above through the most efficient use of people, processes and technology, such that results are delivered in a timely manner
Through a consultative process, Infoway is developing knowledge strategies that reflect the needs of our programs and the jurisdictions with whom we work. The products that result from those strategies are continually evaluated to ensure they remain relevant to the stakeholders they are intended to serve (just in time vs. just in case).
Knowledge management: cross program knowledge strategy services
The following are the services that Infoway's Knowledge Management team offers on our projects in some or all of our investment programs:
Cross project workshops
These workshops allow jurisdictions to see what other jurisdictions are doing in their projects. They will help establish working relationships between jurisdictions as well as foster collaboration and coordinate common solutions and approaches that can be leveraged and tailored to specific projects
White papers
White papers delve into issues that have been raised by jurisdictions as needing further clarity. Infoway has already addressed several topics. Infoway will actively seek to sponsor/partner with jurisdictions in the development of future white papers in each program.
Program gateway
The program gateway is a central area where projects will be able to collaborate with other project teams and have access to Infoway-provided resources. The goal of the program gateways is to allow jurisdictions to collaborate and exchange information with each other on an ad hoc basis. Program gateways complement Infoway's toolkit offerings.
Toolkits
A toolkit represents a collection of knowledge that Infoway has gathered from our investment projects. The knowledge contained in the toolkit has undergone a rigorous process to provide analysis, best practices and templates. For more information about how to access these toolkits, please contact knowledge@infoway-inforoute.ca
Mentoring
This service helps identify lead jurisdictions who are implementing projects and has them actively mentor other jurisdictions in their implementation efforts. This process requires a jurisdiction willing to devote resources and time to this type of activity to ensure appropriate service levels are established.
